A TV Saved from the Landfill

Just finished repairing a Samsung 2280HD. As usual, something fails around two months after the warranty expires. In this case, the backlight went out. It was the usual two seconds on and then off. After opening it, the cause was obvious: failed, bloated capacitors. Why do companies insist on using crappy capacitors. In my case, they were some of the infamous CapXon. I replaced them with some nice Panasonic FM/FC capacitors. The TV was back and brighter than before.

Capacitors used (part numbers are Digikey):

• • 1 - 50V 3.3uF (Panasonic FC, part # P10314-ND)

  • 1 - 50V 22uF (Panasonic FM, part # P12927-ND)

  • 1 - 25V 47uF (Panasonic FM, part # P12923-ND)

  • 1 - 35V 680uF (Panasonic FM, part # P12417-ND)

  • 1 - 25V 1000uF (Panasonic FM, part # P12379-ND)

  • 5 - 25V 470uF (Panasonic FM, part # P12389-ND)

Only capacitor I didn't change was the big one. From from I've read, that one can be left alone.
